The Polaris RANGER® or the Polaris RZR®: Which Should You Choose?

May. 27 2020 Buying Guide By ___

When you’re looking for a Polaris® UTV to ride, you’ll find a lot of fantastic options, but some of the most popular choices for many buyers include the Polaris RANGER® and the Polaris RZR®. Each model lineup offers unique perks, as well as fantastic all-around designs and performance. That’s why Tracy Motorsports has broken down each choice by some of its most popular assets so you can find the model that’s right for you. Check out our comparative guide and then contact our location in Tracy, California, serving Stockton and Modesto, for more information.

In compliance with state stay-at-home laws, we’ve limited access to parts of our dealership and we’re implementing other protocols to keep you and our staff safe, but we’re still open for business! Call ahead for more information about the Polaris® side-by-sides you’re interested in.

Price Point vs. Value

We know that price is going to play a big role in your choice. We certainly don’t want you buying something that’s going to become a financial burden. Keep in mind, for both groups, prices will range depending on the model you choose, the number of optional features to go for, and the age and condition of the vehicle.

RANGER® Average Price: $17,900

As you can see, the average price of a 2020 RANGER® is lower than the average price of an RZR®. Of course, this changes depending on which model you’re looking at, but if you’re focused on saving money and still getting a great Polaris® side-by-side option, there are some more affordable options in the RANGER® lineup.

RZR® Average Price: $21,450

The RZR® is performance focused, and therefore it bumps up the average price of a 2020 model. But this doesn’t mean you can’t find one that’s budget friendly. You can still enjoy the iconic RZR® by opting for a more affordable model, looking at pre-owned options, and asking about deals and sales going on at our dealership.

Putting it to Work

One way to narrow down your options quickly is to look at each group from a riding use point of view.

The Utility Option

The Polaris RANGER® is the company’s signature utility option. It’s designed to help around your property or business with difficult projects like moving debris, towing small trailers, or simply getting from one place to the next on a large property. They also have some trail-riding capabilities, but they’re the better choice if you own a farm or business that requires a vehicle in the fields.

The Sport Option

The Polaris RZR® is famous for its performance capabilities, making it ideal for some of the most dedicated thrill-seekers. Agile handling, improved transmission options, and smooth suspension allow you to tackle even the most difficult trails. Not to mention, it’s got a sportier paint job to match.

Which One Is…

Of course, on top of the big concerns, there are other, miscellaneous concerns you’re probably thinking about.

Heavier?

The RANGER®.

But not by much. Because of its utility focus, it’s built to be a little sturdier. But the difference between the heaviest models in both groups is only about 300 pounds.

Narrower?

The RZR®.

No contest. Depending on which model you get, you can opt for wider RZR® models, but some are built to accommodate trails with a width restriction of 50 inches, because Polaris® doesn’t want your UTV holding you back from any riding experience.

Holds More Weight?

The RANGER®.

Again, no contest. But not surprisingly so. The RANGER® is designed to help you with work around your property, which is why you can get a payload capacity of up to 1,750 pounds and a towing capacity of up to 2,500 pounds.

Even seating options go to the RANGER®. Some RANGER® models can hold up to six riders, so your whole crew can catch a ride.

These are just a few of the differences between the Polaris RANGER® lineup and the Polaris RZR® lineup, but there are a lot of other things to learn about these models. The one that’s right for you may not be the one that’s right for someone else, which is why you’ll want to check out the models for sale in our inventory at Tracy Motorsports in Tracy, California.
